My wife Beth Mlacak was presented with a Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal.  She was nominated by Marianne Wilkinson, Councillor, Ward 4, Kanata North, the City of Ottawa.  Beth was presented with the medal and a certificate by Gordon O’Connor, MP for Carleton Mississippi-Mills (our riding) at a ceremony on Parliament Hill on September 6, 2012.

Beth was instrumental in getting French Immersion programs into the Carleton Board of Education. She is a strong supporter of the arts as a founder of the Kanata Civic Art Gallery, a cooperative-run City Gallery now in its 20th year of operation. She is also a founder of Young At Art (YAA) which began at the Kanata Civic Art Gallery 16 years ago as a juried show for youth from 13-19 in the Kanata region. YAA is now a City of Ottawa-wide show which runs in 3 art galleries, one in the east, one in the west and one in the centre. Hundreds of young people participate now from many schools.
