Halifax Exhibition Opening Sept. 30
“Grand Manan Island, NB, Swallowtail Lighthouse”, 24″ x 30″, #1650 was created especially for the Society of Canadian Artists exhibition in Halifax, Nova Scotia at the prestigious Halifax Club. I am delighted that this oil on canvas painting was juried into this show for the Society’s elected members. The official opening is to be held on Sunday, September 30 from 2 to 6 pm and the show continues until the end of December.
My wife Beth and I did a bike tour of Grand Manan Island some years ago. We stayed at a charming B & B called the Compass Rose where we enjoyed seafood chowder, fresh lobster and New Brunswick brown bread fresh from the oven. We were adopted by the non resident (although you would never know it) cat, known as Emilio, the Gourmet Cat. We saw how dulse is harvested and made and met many of the local residents as we travelled around the Island. Almost all the residents were connected in some way to the fishing industry. It was one of our most memorable trips and treking out to Swallowtail Lighthouse was one of the highlights.
