Here I am, awaiting all the visitors to Art for the Heart on Feb. 3, the third annual fundraiser for the University of Ottawa Heart Institute. The Cedarhill Golf Club was a great venue and guests had plenty of room to move around and enjoy the displays. I met lots of old friends and made some new ones.
Mark your calendars for this third annual fundraising art show and sale for the Ottawa Heart Institute. The event takes place at the Cedarhill Golf & Country Club, a new venue this year, 56 Cedarhill Drive (off Cedarview Road) in Nepean, 10 am to 5 pm. Last year I exhibited only a few paintings in the show but this year I will have a full booth of my new oils. I look forward to seeing you there.
The Society of Canadian Artists Exhibition at the Halifax Club is now online. I have one painting in the exhibition, “Swallowtail Lighthouse, Grand Manan Island, NB“, shown below. The exhibition runs until the end of December 2012 in Halifax. The Society has a new online shop which allows for credit card purchase of works from the exhibition.
The Gift of Art, the Kanata Civic Art Gallery’s Annual Christmas Art Show and Sale was held Nov. 17 and 18, 2012 in the upstairs halls of the Mlacak Centre. I haven’t missed this local event since it began 19 years ago. Many of the residents attend the show and because I’ve lived in Kanata for so long, it’s like old home week. I chat with friends, neighbours and newcomers for the entire two days. Sales were brisk and, although exhausted, I thoroughly enjoy this opportunity to exhibit my new work locally.
Getting ready for an art show is a lot of work. With 71 artists, Ottawa Art Expo, in its 4th year, is the largest indoor show in the area and is very well organized. When we arrived at 2pm Friday afternoon to hang our paintings, the booths were up and draped and the lighting installed. What a relief! All this was done by volunteers. We had to be out of the hall by 5 pm and back by 7 pm for the Gala Opening Reception so no time to waste. My wife, Beth, and our wonderful assistant Dave set to work. By 3:30 all paintings were hung and labelled, tools, boxes, ladders, etc. back in the car. Home in time for a much needed nap before the big night.
